Keisha Burfoot, MD
Dr. Keisha Burfoot was born and raised in New York City, where she attended the Macy Medical Professions Program at A. Philip Randolph Campus High School In Harlem. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1991. She received her medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1996. While in medical school, she was honored to serve as a medical missionary at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, Kenya -- an experience that helped shape her life and devotion to healing. She then completed a 4-year residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, where she received acknowledgment for special excellence in endoscopic procedures.
For the next 8 years, Dr. Burfoot practiced OB-GYN in Chesapeake, Virginia in a group practice setting. Eager to follow her own spiritual, personal and professional values, she left the security of an established practice and started Elite Women's Care in August 2008. Her intuition about how to best meet the healthcare needs of women in Tidewater was well-founded and has established Elite Women's Care as a premier OB-GYN practice in the region.
Dr. Burfoot is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and a member of the American Medical Association. She is married with four daughters and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church. She spends her leisure time with her family and is active in community service.
Malena Sample, MD
Dr. MaLena Sample was born to military parents at Fort Bragg, NC. During her last 2 years of high school, she attended the prestigious North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, NC where she completed her high school education with honors. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduation, she traveled to Budapest, Hungary and pursued her interest in medical research where she performed preliminary clinical research on the trasmission of viruses beteween animals and humans. She then returned to the states and attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and received her Doctorate of Medicine in 2002. Afterwards, she completed a 4 year residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Texas Tech University Health Science Center of Medicine in El Paso, Texas where she developed a special medical interest in urogynecology and female incontinence.
Since 2006, Dr. Sample has practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Hampton Roads. She joined her dear friend, Dr. Keisha Burfoot and Elite Women's Care in 2010. Dr. Sample is Board certified, and a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, active in the community, and spends her leisure time with family and friends, watching science fiction movies, reading and traveling.
Jacqualynne McFarlane, MD
Dr. McFarlane was raised in Norfolk and graduated from Lake Taylor High School in 1996. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Virginia in 2000 and her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, in 2007. She then completed a 4-year residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, where she developed a keen interest and expertise in family planning and adolescent medicine.
For the past year, Dr. McFarlane has served patients at Peninsula Institute for Community Health -- a community based health care initiative in Hampton Roads for the under-served. In January 2013, she joined her dear friends, Dr. Keisha Burfoot and Dr. MaLena Sample at Elite Women's Care.
Dr. McFarlane is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. She has a life-long commitment to helping people and has a goal to make a difference in the lives of her patients, friends, family and community. She spends her leisure time with her family.
